Certified nurse midwives are able to blend two disciplines, those of midwifery and nursing to offer obstetric, gynecologic, women's health, primary care and family planning services in a holistic and woman-centered way.

Certified Nurse Midwives care for women across the lifespan, during labor, birth and postpartum, for newborns through 28 days of life and for men as related to screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. It is a model of care that shifts from focusing primarily on disease and instead emphasizes normal while recognizing deviations that require further assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
